Nokia's Charging Pants

Nokia’s devices team is getting pretty experimental under the ownership of Microsoft. Today the group unveiled its latest product, a pair of pants with built-in wireless charging. That’s not exactly what we meant when we wondered if Nokia was planning to release a wearable device.

It may sound ridiculous, but it’s actually a pretty cool idea when you think about it. Nokia used the same wireless technology included in its DC-50 charging pad, but this time it’s built right into your pants pocket. Just slide your Qi-compatible smartphone into your pocket and it will automatically start charging. The charger itself is barely visible, so your friends won’t know just how geeky you are unless you tell them first.
Nokia’s pants are part of a new “Modern Man” collection from British fashion design Adrien Sauvage, but don’t worry you’ll still be able to buy a pair of your own. Nokia says the pants will be available on Amazon “soon,” though there’s no word on how much these designer trousers will actually cost.
