Just slide your Qi-compatible smartphone into your pocket and it will automatically start charging. The charger itself is barely visible, so your friends won’t know just how geeky you are unless you tell them first.

Nokia’s pants are part of a new “Modern Man” collection from British fashion design Adrien Sauvage, but don’t worry you’ll still be able to buy a pair of your own. Nokia says the pants will be available on Amazon “soon,” though there’s no word on how much these designer trousers will actually cost.

Nokia's New DC-50 Portable Wireless Charging Station

The DC-50 comes in yellow, white, blue or red. It’s a portable charger, and when it runs out of power you can plug it in via micro-USB or simply place it on top of another Qi charger—if you happen to have a second one lying around. The new charging plate weighs just 150 grams. It’s 12 mm thick with a height and width of 69 x 134 mm.

It’s nice to see Nokia putting a real emphasis on wireless charging, and we appreciate that it builds the tech into some of its phones. Other companies force their customers to purchase a separate back panel, though to be fair Nokia does for some models, too. The DC-50 may be specifically designed for Nokia’s new 6-inch phablet, but it’s designed to work with any Qi-enabled device, including the Lumia 1020 and Lumia 925, with back plates, and Lumia 920.

Nokia Smartwatch Incoming, Patent Filing Suggests

Does Nokia, and by association Microsoft, have a smartwatch coming down the pipeline? It appears so, at least according to a new patent application that was filed two months ago and published Thursday.

The application for a “Multi-segment Wearable Accessory” describes a device with a processor, a memory module and a display and can be “worn by the user so as to reduce the number of independent mobile terminals that the user must otherwise carry.” That suggests it could operate independently of a smartphone or tablet, though we imagine Microsoft and Nokia will want this to work closely with Windows Phone and Windows.

Nokia’s patent also discusses a possible touch screen, touch areas, soft keys, a microphone, a speaker and other components that, it sounds like, could help the device serve as a communication accessory similar to the Samsung Galaxy Gear. Commands might also be executed through gestures, as the patent describes a “shaking action a user may make when attempting to re-seat a watch on his wrist” that could be confused with an attempt to shake the watch in order to “collapse all” information on the display. As you’ll note in the picture above, content could also appear on multiple displays.

Samsung’s Galaxy Gear is the latest foray into the wearable mobile accessory territory, though several other firms including Apple are rumored to be hard at work on similar devices.
